Eco-Entrepreneurship: Study visit in Struga, North Macedonia

Eco-Entrepreneurship: Study visit in Struga, North Macedonia

Study Visit „Eco-Entrepreneurship & Circular Economy: On the Path to Sustainable Change“ took place in Struga, North Macedonia from the 22nd of June till the 28th June 2023, and involved 24 participants from 6 different countries. The main aim of the study visit was to enable participants to explore the realities in the visiting country and local community by direct exploring the work of youth organisations, educational institutions, eco-enterprises, and to support sharing practices, tools, method between the participants.

Check what was the experience of participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in text below.

Esma said that one of the main reason why she decided to apply for this activity was the agenda of the project.

The project was based on study visits with which she did not have much previous experience, which encouraged her to apply because it was one of the best ways to acquire new knowledge.

What Esma would like to emphasise additionally as motivation for this project was the topic that is related to her profession, so she had a great personal benefit from participating in this project. For her, this was an enriching experience that allowed her to gain insight into sustainable business practices and innovative solutions to environmental challenges.

During this visit, she had the opportunity to learn about different aspects of eco-entrepreneurship, including sustainable business models, resource efficiency, waste management and the concept of circular economy.

As the most important things she learned, she would single out sustainable business planning and guidelines on how to develop a business plan that includes environmental and social considerations, setting clear goals and strategies for creating a sustainable business, understanding the product life cycle, conducting environmental impact assessments and applying the principles of sustainable design, identification of innovative business opportunities based on resource efficiency, waste reduction, recycling and product life cycle management and improved entrepreneurial mindset and ability to spot market gaps.

Dejan said that he applied to participate in this activity because he has always been interested in the topic of ecology and environmental protection, both through his formal and non-formal education. He was also motivated to apply because the type of activity was “the study visit”  which meant he will get a chance to see positive practices and good examples in other country, meet with the successful eco-entrepreneurs and be able to learn new things he could apply to his work and in his local community.

Dejan said that his experience on this study visit was inspiring. He learned so much and specially enjoyed working and learning as part of the international group where people were sharing inspiring stories from their personal experiences. .  He also learned that there is always something that we can do to help nature and also help others in the field of Ecology.

Dejan would suggest to all his peers to get active and join the Erasmus+ opportunities. Why? Because, first of all, you are able to travel and explore other countries and cultures, you meet many new inspiring people who are on that project with the same interest and motivation as you have, and finally you can work on your personal and professional development.

Study visit was organised as part of the project “Eco-Entrepreneurship & Circular Economy: On the Path to Sustainable Change”.

MORE intercultural competences: sensitizing on personal and social identity towards migration topic for increasing quality in youth work

MORE intercultural competences: sensitizing on personal and social identity towards migration topic for increasing quality in youth work

Start date: 01-07-2023 --- End date: 30-06-2024

Project Reference: 2023-1-CY02-KA153-YOU-000143655

EU Grant: 35.805,00 € EUR

Program: Erasmus+

Key Action: KA153-YOU - Mobility of youth workers

Partner countries: Cyprus, Spain, Italy, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Germany

Venue and dates: Cyprus, 20-30 October 2023

Spin is official project partner.

The “MORE intercultural competence” project aims to organize a training course to train education professionals on the management of intercultural conflicts created by a situation of mass migration. Through the educational tool MORE, as a role-playing game, participants will be invited to reflect on the social and personal dynamics underlying migratory processes: prejudices, stereotypes, fears, integration, etc. The game itself will be presented as a useful means of responding to micro-conflict situations that everyone is called upon to manage in their professional environment.

MORE is an educational tool for conflict management. It simulates a negotiation for the resolution of a multinational dispute, through an international round table: the massive migration in an imaginary country called Enotria. MORE stands for Mediation on Responsibilities and Exploitations. This name effectively describes the way in which the migratory situation is dealt with within the world – particularly in Europe. MORE is not only an acronym, it represents ‘more’ skills, knowledge and attitude that are developed through role play.

  • Project objectives:

    • Reflect and clarify the concept of individual identity;

    • Understand that individual identity connects with collective individuality (us);

    • Understand those society-based collective identities delimit an area of inclusion and an area of exclusion (you);

    • Recognizing and deconstructing stereotypes and prejudices against foreigners;

    • How we acquire information (data) about the topic (which are the sources, media literacy);

    • Know how to recognize the difference between data and interpretations on the migrant topic;

    • Provide participants with a practical educational tool for contributing to the raising of intercultural awareness in their communities and daily activities.

Spin participating in Youth@Work Study Visit and Partnership Building Activity in Finland

Spin participating in Youth@Work Study Visit and Partnership Building Activity in Finland

In the period between 12th and 16th June 2023, we participated in “Youth@Work: Youth work as a supporter of entrepreneurial thinking – study visit and partnership building activity” that took place in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Study visit and partnership-building activity was focused on how youth work can support young people’s entrepreneurship skills and entrepreneurial thinking. During the visit, we got to know different methods and approaches that are used in Finland. The focus was on the methods and working models that are mainly used with underage youth.

The first aim of the study visit was to get to know good practices on how to support young people’s entrepreneurship skills.  We got a general understanding of how young people are supported in entrepreneurial thinking and even how a young person can become an entrepreneur themselves. Different methods from NGO´s like 4H, Youth Entrepreneurship House Innola, Young Achievement etc. were showcased during the study visit.

The second as important aim was to encourage participants to create and build partnerships and learn how European Youth Programs can be used.  The aim was to recognize potential tools from European Youth Programs (Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps) and even find suitable partners among the participants for future projects.

This study visit was targeted for youth workers and representatives from NGOs and municipalities that are working on development of young people’s entrepreneurship skills.

This event was part of the Youth@Work Partnership, alongside other projects tackling youth employability and entrepreneurship, organised by the 14 member Erasmus+ National Agencies and SALTO-YOUTH Resource Centres. You can learn more about Youth@Work at www.youthatworkpartnership.org and @YouthatWorkPartnership.

This event was hosted and organised by the Finnish National Agency for Education EDUFI.

Spin is official project partner.

The primary objective of the project is to equip youth workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to help young people identify, differentiate, and combat fake news. We want to empower youth workers with the skills to help young people become more aware of the potential dangers of fake news and to think critically about the information presented to them.

The project will also provide youth workers with access to non-formal methods of work, such as interactive exercises and role-playing, to help them in their work with youth. We will also create a platform with resources to help spread media literacy and raise awareness of the issue of fake news, as well as a non-formal network of local organizations and institutions to collaborate and share resources, knowledge, and experiences.

Furthermore, the project aims to raise awareness of the need to work with youth to understand the effects of fake news and its potential to damage trust in public discourse. Through our project, we hope to foster a collaborative environment amongst youth workers, local organizations, and institutions, while helping to create a more informed and engaged public.

We want to ensure that youth workers are equipped with the necessary tools and skills to help young people identify, challenge, and resist the spread of fake news and create a more informed and aware society. We want to empower youth workers to recognize the potential harmful effects of fake news and to be able to provide support to young people who may be affected by it. Through the project, we hope to create a safe, informed, and engaged environment for youth to live and thrive in.

  • Project activities:

    • Training 24 youth workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to work with young people to understand, differentiate, and combat fake news.
    • Providing youth workers with access to at least 20 non-formal methods of work, such as interactive exercises and role-playing.
    • Creating a platform with at least 20 resources, such as articles, videos, podcasts, and other materials, to help youth workers spread media literacy and awareness of fake news.
    • Creating a non-formal network of 30 local organizations and institutions working together to share resources, knowledge, and experiences.
    • Raising awareness of the need to work with youth to understand the effects of fake news and its potential to damage trust in public discourse.

Project map

Overall, we expect that our project will help to empower youth to recognise and counter the spread of fake news, and ultimately create a more informed, engaged, and safe society.

Eco-entrepreneurship: Future is Green

Eco-entrepreneurship: Future is Green

Youth Exchange „Eco-entrepreneurship: Future is Green“ took place in Avala, Serbia from the 20th of April till the 27th of April 2023, and involved 36 participants from 6 different countries. The main aim of the youth exchange was to raise the interest of young people, young people with fewer opportunities in the concepts of eco-entrepreneurship, and sustainability, to equip young people, young people with fewer opportunities with new competencies, to provide them with a chance to get inspired by the experiences of their peers from other countries, to create the ideas for the Board Game. The whole concept of the youth exchange was based on non-formal learning and learning-by-doing methodologies.

Check what was the experience of participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in text below.

Dejan said that he decided to apply for this project because he has never been on an Eco-oriented project before and he was always interested in the topics of ecology and living sustainably, so he was curious to see what this project had to offer. Also, an important factor was his desire to travel around, see and explore the other places he has not visited so far. Dejan describes himself as a very open person who loves to meet new people so it was an extra reason to apply and participate in this youth exchange.

His experience with the youth exchange was simply amazing. Together with other participants, he was working a lot but working on something that they liked and enjoyed and were happy to be there. Experience with the Erasmus+ program is beautiful, and Dejan always feels happy when he can start a story with:”When I was participating in the Erasmus+ activity…”. For this reason and based on previous Dejan’s experience, he would recommend to all young people to join Erasmus+ projects because they are educational, fun, you get a chance to travel and meet new people, and most importantly have a GREAT time.

Ena decided to participate in this youth exchange because of the topic that drew her attention at that moment, due to the lack of awareness among young people about the importance of ecology, and because she also did not have the opportunity to learn enough about the importance of this topic through the previous life situations.

The experience for Ena was wonderful: apart from an excellent program and interesting young people who are above all the most beautiful part of this experience, she also learned a lot and was part of this story in a productive way. In addition to new cultures, she had a chance to learn many new methods that contribute to her daily life in which she can contribute to the environment. As well as many other skills that she can use and transfer the acquired knowledge to the local community.

Her previous experience with the Erasmus+ activities has helped her to understand and learn the best learning methods that work for her and to realize that a beautiful experience with wonderful people is the best way to get out of your comfort zone and fulfill your potential.

Adi said that he decided to participate in this youth exchange as he saw it as a perfect opportunity for a new positive change in his life. He didn’t use to think about ecology often, but by the end of the project, he realized how important it actually is and why everyone should be educated about it. Of course, he was also motivated to travel, have new experiences, and meet young people from other countries. Despite being the first youth exchange he participated in, Adi still had a lot of fun, but above everything, he learned very useful things that will bring a better future not only for him but also for nature and other young people in his local community.

He also liked the concept of the project itself as the sessions were as energetic and interesting as the people who attended. Adi had a lot of great times in which he could share opinions and discuss with other young people, read, play games, listen to music, enjoy nature, and similar.

In the end, Adi would recommend to all young people to use the opportunity and become part of some future youth exchanges. He thinks that these are the projects that force young people to improve themselves, their environment, and their lives. And also, having a great time has never brought harm to anyone, so… you should definitely participate!

Youth exchange was organised as part of the project “Eco-Entrepreneurship & Circular Economy: On the Path to Sustainable Change”.
