MY PEACE Roadmap – Peacebuilding Approach Through Music (MY PEACE Project)

Within the MY PEACE project – Music of Youth, A Peace Building Approach – partners have developed the “MY PEACE Roadmap,” an interactive resource mapping the key areas for improvement, practical workshops, and inspiring good practices needed to engage youth in peacebuilding through music.

This Roadmap represents a major milestone of Work Package 2 and provides the evidence-based foundation for the training courses, workshops, and creative productions developed throughout the project.

Purpose of the Roadmap

The Roadmap explores how music can be used as a tool for peacebuilding across four key groups: youth workers/educators, music stakeholders, peacebuilding stakeholders, and young people aged 18–30, including refugees and NEETs. Its goal is to identify the skills, knowledge, and support each group needs to meaningfully engage in peacebuilding processes, and to translate these insights into concrete, ready-to-use training tools.

By combining research findings with real-world examples from across Europe, the Roadmap supports the creation of practical, music-based approaches that strengthen social cohesion and empower youth as active agents of peace.

Research approach and scope

The Roadmap is grounded in direct engagement with the communities it serves, including:

  • Consultations with representatives from each of the four target groups across all partner countries
  • Identification of at least 20 areas for improvement per target group, covering skills, program design, community engagement, cross-sectoral cooperation, and resource utilisation
  • Collection of concrete good practice examples from six countries: Ireland, Germany, Ukraine, France, Denmark, and Bosnia and Herzegovina

This approach combines conceptual guidance with lived experience, ensuring the Roadmap reflects both shared regional challenges and country-specific realities.

Content and structure

The Roadmap is organised into 80 areas for improvement across the four target groups, complemented by 20 practical, non-formal education workshops (five per group) with clear objectives, materials, and step-by-step session flows. It also features 26 good practice examples from partner countries, showcasing real initiatives that use music to foster dialogue, inclusion, and reconciliation.

No specialised background in music, peacebuilding, or formal pedagogy is required to use the workshops – they are designed to be accessible and adaptable for facilitators with varying levels of experience.

Impact on the MY PEACE project

The findings and tools in this Roadmap directly inform:

  • the design of training courses for youth workers, musicians, and peacebuilding stakeholders
  • the development of workshops used directly with young people across partner countries
  • the creation of peacebuilding-through-music productions shared with the public
  • the ongoing exchange of good practices between partner organisations

By grounding all project activities in identified needs and proven examples, MY PEACE ensures its outputs are relevant, practical, and impactful for youth peacebuilding across Europe.

European partnership for peacebuilding through music

MY PEACE is implemented by a consortium of partners from France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, and Ukraine, combining expertise in music, youth work, peacebuilding, and non-formal education.

Through music, creative expression, and intercultural dialogue, the project facilitates cooperation between young people, educators, and peacebuilding actors across Europe.
