MORE intercultural competence – training course in Limassol, Cyprus

The “MORE intercultural competence “training course took place between 20th and 30th October 2023 in Limassol, Cyprus. It brought together 28 youth workers from seven partner countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Italy, Armenia, Sweden, Germany and Spain.

The “MORE intercultural competence” training course aimed to train education professionals on managing intercultural conflicts created by a situation of mass migration. Through the educational tool MORE, as a role-playing game, participants were able to reflect on the social and personal dynamics underlying migratory processes: prejudices, stereotypes, fears, integration, etc. The game was presented as a valuable means of responding to micro-conflict situations that everyone is called upon to manage professionally.

MORE is an educational tool for conflict management. It simulates a negotiation for the resolution of a multinational dispute through an international round table: the massive migration in an imaginary country called Enotria. MORE stands for Mediation on Responsibilities and Exploitations. This name effectively describes how the migratory situation is dealt with worldwide – particularly in Europe. MORE is not only an acronym; it represents ‘more’ skills, knowledge, and attitudes developed through role play.

Dejan Vukajlović was one of the youth workers from Okret / Spin, presenting Bosnia and Herzegovina on the activity. He said that he decided to attend this training course due to his previous experience and involvement in working with migrants and people on the move on self-identification and to get new tools and methods that he can implement into his daily work.

Dejan shared that his learning highlights during the training course were learning about realities and situations in other countries is very difficult, challenges migrants face daily in new environments, and problems of integration of migrants into societies.

Dejan also shared that he had a chance to discuss the brain drain of young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina and tried to identify their most common problems. In the end, Dejan said that he would highly recommend similar training courses to all other youth workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as he found it very interesting, interactive, and engaging.
